Production of Tata Nano declines in January 2019

Tata Motors famous car Nano which was referred to as “people’s car” has seen a major decline in its sales and production. In the past month of January, the company did not indulge in the production of the small car. The company officials have recently hinted that the sales and production of Nano will stop from the coming year of April 2020.

Tata Motors has no further plans to invest on Ratan Tata’s most affordable dream car which can’t meet the strict emission of the norms that come under BS-VI and other safety regulation which can be added in coming years. According to the regulatory filing, Tata Motors listed that zero units of the car were produced in the past month and the same goes for the previous year where 83 units of the same car were produced.

As compared to January 2018, where 62 units were sold, there was not a single sale of the car in the previous month. As far as export is concerned, the company has not shipped a single unit of Tata’s most affordable car. Tata Nano came into the market in January 2008, and up to some extent it met with people’s expectations at Auto Expo.

The car was then launched in March 2009 in the market whose initial was very eye catchy. At a price range of Rs.1 lakh for the base model, Ratan Tata kept his promise. At the very beginning of the time, Nano created trouble that was originally planned to start up its production at Singur, West Bengal.

But due to intense farmer protests and political pressures for land acquisitions, the company shifted its production to Sanand in Gujarat. There were many complaints of catching fire in the car, and Ratan Tata admitted about the mistake for promoting the cheapest car. Later, it became the loss-making model for the company, and it constantly lost value.

The company left with no turnaround strategy and the line of profitability were almost gone. But Tata Motors did not stop producing Nano due to emotional reasons. To meet the customer requirements and demands the company continued to produce Tata Nano. And hence, the fresh investment can cost
